Checking your car fluid levels

Many people only remember to top up their washer fluid when they are driving along and realise that they have totally ran out. They may then pull up to the nearest garage and fill it with water to continue on their way. But it is not just your water washer levels that should be checked regularly.

Oil, coolant and brake / transmission fluid should also all be checked on a regular basis and before you do any long journey.

If you run out of any of these fluids it can not only cause serious damage to the car but can also make the vehicle unsafe to drive. If you notice that your temperature gauge is suddenly creeping up more than usually or you have a warning light come up on your dash, you should pull over as soon as you can and check your coolant. It may just require a top up, or it may be the sign of a more serious problem such as a radiator leek.
