Unfortunately some garages take advantage of the fact that many of their customers are not very car savvy and therefore trust that what the garage says is gospel. Although against the law, some garages will quote for additional work that does not really need doing and they may also quote higher for parts and labour than they normally do.
There are a number of ways to try and avoid this happening:
- Get to know your garage – Try and find a garage that you like and trust and stick with them. The more you get to know them the more you will be able to build up trust with them. Always try to find reviews for a car garage before using them.
- Ask around for prices – Once you have been quoted a price for parts and / or labour, speak to a few other local garages to find out what they will quote you? You may end up saving yourself a healthy amount just by doing a bit of shopping around.
