Using a sat nav when you are driving

Currently it is ok to use satellite navigation when driving but as a responsible drivers, you need to take steps to ensure that it is safe to do so. If you are using a satellite navigation systems that is not built in to your vehicle, either a separate device or a phone then it must be secured correctly. If it isn’t and it falls off when you are driving it can be a distraction and could end up under your peddles for example or cause you to reach down to get it from the floor meaning you take your eyes off the road.

Ideally put your sat nav through your stereo system so that it reads directions out to you and you do not have to keep looking at the screen. Before setting off on your journey, have a look at the journey over view so you can get an idea of where you need to be heading. If there is a turning that you think you may miss, have a look on the street view of the area so you can look out for it when you are driving in your car.
