If you are considering buying a second hand car then you may wish to do a bit of your own research on it before parting with your money. Previous to the new online MOT system, paper MOT’s made it relatively easy for sellers to hide information about previous failures or advisors as these were printed on separate sheets of paper. With the online MOT and Insurance / Tax database you can now check up on the vehicles background to try and get a feel for what work has been done or may need doing in the near future.
The MOT history check is a fantastic tool to see what the car has previously failed on or what was on the last advisory (meaning it may need doing in the time you own it prior to the next MOT). Although this is not going to give you guarantee that nothing else will go wrong at least you can make an informed decision as to whether to buy the car based on the facts you have.
