Driving on roads that you are not used to can be daunting and you may make yourself worry enough to stop you from doing it. Often we imagine the worse and when it comes to reality it’s often not half as bad as we think.
If you have a fear or worry about driving on new roads then it is best to conquer it but in a safe way. Do not force yourself to go out there at rush hour with no idea where you are going as if possible it is better to do it gradually. First try looking at the route you will take on Google Maps or sat nav. You could even use street view to have a look out for landmarks or signs where you will need to turn. Being able to visualise something can really help with calming nerves as it gives you something familiar to look out for.
Make sure that you watch your speed as when concentrating on your route, it is easy to not see your speed creep up.
Once you have gone out once or twice try and make the route a little more complex or try it at night so you can start to experience it in all different scenarios this will give you more confidence to know that you can deal with any situation.
